How this works now
Advocacy services are still free to every family, not just Nye County families. As of this year, the advocate intake, service agreements, and waivers live on a dedicated site, advocateiep.com. PDOP keeps the education, the resources, and the community support right here.
Six rights every parent should know
- Your child has a right to a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment.
- You can request an evaluation in writing at any time. The district must respond; it cannot simply refuse verbally.
- You are a full member of the IEP team. Nothing is final because a school staff member says it is.
- You may bring anyone to an IEP meeting, including an advocate, at no cost to the district.
- You can request an IEP meeting any time, not only at the annual review.
- You must receive prior written notice before the district changes identification, evaluation, or placement.
Before your next IEP meeting
- Put every request in writing and keep a dated copy.
- Ask for draft documents at least three days before the meeting.
- Write down your three top concerns and bring them printed.
- Ask for data, not impressions: how often, how measured, over what period.
- Never sign anything at the table if you are unsure. You can take it home.
